Many systems designers would like to be able to add a flash drive to their system but find that they can only do this by adding a fully blown host stack to their system - thus creating unnecessary resource requirements, complexity and cost in their product.

HCC-Embedded's USB HostLite is designed to give engineers a highly focused solution, which includes no unnecessary functinoality, to acheive a specific goal.

Currently HostLite is available in two flavours: Mass Storage for connecting USB flash drives, and Communications Device Class for connecting Virtual serial port type devices to the host system.

HostLite

There are many USB host controllers avaialble for embedded targets which do not conform to any standard. HCC have provide their USB HostLite software for the following devices:

• ISP1161
• ISP1362
• MAX3421E
• MCF5222x

OHCI

An OHCI implementation (tested on SAM9 and other controllers) is available for all HCC host drivers.

EHCI

An EHCI implementation (verfied on MCF5329) is available for all HCC host drivers.

HostLite Mass Storage

This is a highly optimised USB host stack which allows any flash drive to plug into the host system and to be read by the hosts file system.

The system allows the host to access the drive using the minimum possible RAM and ROM requirements. It can be used with both an integrated USB host controller or with an external USB host controller. USB-HostLite-MS uses just the control channel endpoint and two bulk endpoints.

USB-HostLite-MS is fully compatible with HCC-Embedded FAT and THIN products.

HostLite CDC

This is a highly optimised USB host stack which allows a USB virtual serial port device to be connected. The USB virtual serial port device then acts as a standard serial port which can be accessed using simple serial API functions. The system uses minimum possible RAM and ROM. It requires just the control channel endpoint and a single interrupt endpoint.

Supported Targets

HCC-Embedded's USB HostLite is designed to work with both integrated USB host controllers or with externally interfaced USB Host Controllers.
