LeCroy Trace

The LeCroy Trace expert analysis software automatically decodes network traffic and problems. For every trace captured, LeCroy's software generates high-level views and traffic summaries that help point out where protocol violations occurred. It actually detects and alerts the user to problems at all functional levels.

The LeCroy Trace display system is the de-facto industry standard for advanced protocol analysis. While other products display the stream of packets in difficult-to-understand text format, the LeCroy Trace matches a strong decoding engine with an easy to use graphical user interface that removes complexity and trains the eye to understand more information faster. LeCroy's expert analysis software displays each Primitive, Data Frame, or decoded Sequence on separate rows with every field labeled and verified for proper formatting.

Caption Colors and graphics are used to represent Sequences, Exchanges or individual Frames in the context of the Protocol

Users can rapidly identify the area or operation of interest and then click to expand its contents. For deeper analysis, users can view packet contents as raw 10-bit codes.

Benefits

  • Powerful and Intuitive LeCroy Trace Expert Software System - The LeCroy Trace embeds deep understanding of the protocol hierarchy and intricacies and presents this knowledge to the user in a colourful, intuitive and easy to use graphical display, allowing users to quickly capture and validate product designs
  • Protocol Hierarchical Viewing - View Packet, Transaction and Split Transaction levels of the protocol. Drill-down for detailed primitives, errors, payloads or individual packets
  • Statistical and Error Reporting - Provides users a quick summary of the trace file to identify and track error rates, abnormal link or timing conditions
  • Link Tracker™ Trace Display - Chronologically display all DWORDS on all channels synchronised to a common clock
  • Advanced Triggering - Allows users to trigger on various Events such as Link Conditions, TLP Headers, DLLP Messages, Data Payload, etc.
  • Lane-Reversal Compatible - Trigger, record and display traffic logically regardless of the physical configuration of the lanes
  • Lane-to-Lane De-skew - Records and automatically de-skews multi-lane links for accurate analysis

Universal Protocol analyzer System™ (UPAS™)

Universal Protocol analyzer System™ (UPAS™) is the foundation upon which LeCroy's award-winning test and verification tools are built. The UPAS platform not only supports today's communication protocols but also the technologies of the future. With interchangeable plug-ins, field upgradeable firmware, and the ability to link multiple analyzers together for higher bandwidth applications, the UPAS solution can evolve as your protocol analysis needs change.

LeCroy's UPAS is more than just hardware. It's a complete solution for testing and verifying serial-based communications. It offers modularity that starts with interchangeable plug-ins for different protocols. Then it adds a real-time recording engine that selectively captures the traffic that interests you most. It's tightly coupled with the LeCroy Trace™ Expert Analysis software that interprets and explains protocol behaviour. Ultimately, it improves productivity and reduces time-to-market for engineers developing cutting-edge serial communications products.

LeCroy's Universal Protocol analyzer System includes:

  • A highly portable and durable base chassis
  • A family of plug-in modules supporting different protocols
  • BusEngine™ protocol processor technology
  • The intuitive LeCroy Trace™ expert analysis software
  • World-class warranty and support infrastructure

LeCroy's 5th Generation analysis platform, the UPAS system, reflects years of refinement with an emphasis on rugged reliability that stands up to today's demanding test environments. LeCroy offers three versions of the UPAS platform - the UPAS 2500H model for lower speed communications protocols, the UPAS 10K model for high-speed communications links, and the state-of-art UPAS 100K model.

Since the UPAS platform debuted in 2001, the test and measurement community has seen an industry-wide movement away from "closed box" PC analyzers and towards LeCroy's approach of "PC-attached" analysis tools. Among these PC hosted modular designs, LeCroy's UPAS is the leading product of its kind in terms of usability, scalability, and portability:

  • Better investment - a single chassis can be used to support multiple design efforts
  • Field upgradeable - allows the chassis to be enhanced to support future revisions of the protocol
  • Lower training costs - expertise can be leveraged across multiple projects or design teams
  • All-in-one solution - tight integration between analyzer and generator can capture and replay problematic data streams
  • State-of-the-art design - provides up to 8 GB recording memory and hi-speed connectivity to the host PC
  • Highly portable - meets airline carry-on regulations and easily adapts to different lab environments
  • Reliable and durable - "battle-tested" platform includes a 3 year warranty
  • Non-intrusive design - Preserves real-world timing conditions by monitoring links without affecting signal timing
  • Supports external instrumentation - Breakout board and BNC connectors provide easy triggering from oscilloscopes or logic analyzers
  • Support - UPAS is backed by LeCroy's excellent reputation for product quality, reliability, and world-wide customer support

How Does UPAS Work?

  • The "Tracer", or analyzer, module serves as a physical probe to unobtrusively observe and capture bus and protocol traffic. This front-end module unobtrusively monitors the link and streams data to the BusEngine protocol processor for initial real-time analysis, triggering and filtering. Once a recording session is completed, the recorded data is uploaded from the UPAS memory via a high-speed USB port to a host PC for further analysis by the LeCroy Trace software.
  • A second module, termed "Trainer" or "Generator", generates both legal and illegal protocol traffic, assisting engineers in exercising their new designs, resulting in increased quality and interoperability of their new products.
