BTTracer/Trainer, a Bluetooth Protocol analyzer and Traffic Generator

BTTracer/Trainer™ is designed as a powerful top-of-the-line extension to CATC's renowned Merlin Bluetooth analyzer family. Combining the power of a Bluetooth protocol analyzer and a Bluetooth exerciser into a single CATC 10K platform, the BTTracer/Trainer system provides a robust, flexible and efficient integrated environment for Bluetooth developers, testers and verifiers. BTTracer/Trainer is now compliant as a Bluetooth v1.2 analyzer and supports Bluetooth v1.1 traffic generation.

The BTTracer/Trainer features the highly regarded CATC Trace™ graphical user interface, which has become the de-facto industry standard for documenting serial protocols and helps simplify the overall debug process by using collapsible, color-coded schemes to represent all layers of the Bluetooth protocol.

The BTTracer/Trainer incorporates all the experience and knowledge LeCroy has gained since launching its Merlin design system, the world's first Bluetooth protocol analyzer. The result is a Bluetooth protocol analyzer/exerciser system that provides all of the capabilities found in LeCroy's earlier Bluetooth design and verification systems along with new capabilities and features that will allow the BTTracer/Trainer to become the number one design tool in the Bluetooth industry.

Merlin II, a portable Bluetooth V1.2 Protocol analyzer

Based on LeCroy’s original Merlin™ protocol analyzers, Merlin II™ is a powerful Bluetooth® protocol analyzer. For long recording sessions, the analyzer can spool data to an external disk drive for extended memory capacity.

Merlin II has a small form factor that makes it ideal for use in tight workspaces and easy to position for optimal antenna placement and data capture. Merlin II features extensive triggering and robust filtering capabilities, enabling the user to focus only on relevant data and avoid lengthy and laborious searches through captured data. The analyzer can spool data to an external disk drive to provide large virtual memory of long recording sessions.

Merlin II leverages the sophisticated and intuitive CATC Trace™ analysis software system to enable Bluetooth developers to quickly pinpoint problems with an easy-to-use graphical interface.

The latest version V2.51 software makes Merlin II the first Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) ready protocol analyzer and also features an enhanced Real-time Logger showing real-time trace of baseband and LMP events, L2CAP, RFCOMM and SDP traffic.

Merlin Mobile, a Bluetooth Protocol analyzer in PC Card format

Merlin Mobile is a flexible PCMCIA version of LeCroy’s market leading Bluetooth® protocol analyzer system. Featuring the defacto standard CATC Trace display software, Merlin Mobile provides fast interpretation and debug of Bluetooth protocol traffic.

Merlin Mobile’s PCMCIA form factor makes it ideal for use in field applications where laptop configurations allow the user to position the analyzer in any test environment. Merlin Mobile features comprehensive triggering and robust filtering capabilities, enabling you to focus only on relevant data and avoid lengthy and laborious searches through captured data.

HCITracer, for recording serial HCI traffic

LeCroy's HCITracer is designed to operate in conjunction with all of LeCroy's Bluetooth protocol analyzer systems (these include: BTTracer, BTTracer/Trainer, and Merlin II analyzers). HCI probing of traffic assists any Bluetooth designer or test engineer wanting to verify that information passed between the Bluetooth module and the Bluetooth stack conforms to traffic viewed within the piconet. HCI probing is also useful for designers or test engineers that are working at the stack or application level and need to view and/or validate command structures passed to and from the Bluetooth module itself.

The HCITracer functionality provides means to record serial HCI traffic (RS232, UART or BlueCore HCI interfaces) utilizing the CATC Trace analysis software. The HCI probe can be used in several configurations: plugged into a USB port of the host PC or connected to serial ports of the host PC. Up to three (3) HCI probes can be simultaneously connected on a single LeCroy analyzer system.

All HCI traffic is displayed using the CATC Trace software interface, which is the de facto industry standard for documenting the performance of high-speed serial protocols. Information captured by the HCI probe is analyzed and decoded at the following protocol levels: HCI, L2CAP, SDP, RFCOMM, TCS, OBEX, HDLC, BNEP, PPP, AT, HCRP, IP, TCP, UDP, HID, AVCTP, and AVDTP.

The CATC Trace helps simplify the overall debug process by using collapsible, color-coded schemes to represent all layers of the Bluetooth protocol. This application has advanced search and viewing capabilities that allow the user to quickly locate specific data, errors and other conditions, thereby focusing the user's attention on events of interest.
