LeCroy Protocol Solutions Group, formerly known as Computer Access Technology Corporation, (CATC), is a global communication protocols expert company, providing test & measurement solutions for Computer I/O, Storage and Networking protocols, enhancing productivity and time to market.

CATC brought to LeCroy over 12 years of experience developing, manufacturing and marketing advanced protocol analysis expert systems for established and emerging digital communications standards. Currently, LeCroy PSG makes protocol analysis products for Bluetooth, Fibre Channel, IEEE 1394, InfiniBand, PCI Express, SCSI, Serial ATA, Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), USB and most recently Ultra Wideband.

The CATC products are used by hardware, firmware, system and software engineers for the development and test of IP, ASICs, devices and systems in various markets and applications. Technicians also usethe CATC test and analysis products on production lines and for maintenance of deployed systems and networks. The CATC products are used in each phase of our customer's product lifecycle: from development through production and market deployment. Their advanced protocol analysis systems allow their customers to:

  • monitor communications traffic
  • diagnose design and operational problems
  • confirm interoperability and standards compliance

thereby accelerating product development and ensuring standards compliance.

LeCroy PSG (CATC) History:

CATC was founded in 1992, and delivered its first bus and protocol analyser, the USB Detective, in early 1996. After establishing CATC as the leader in protocol analysis and production test tools for the USB market, CATC began to expand its product line to include other emerging protocols. As CATC's product line grew, so did the company. In the next five years, CATC's revenues grew ten-fold, culminating in a successful initial public offering in November of 2000.

Today, CATC is the recognised leader in many of the markets they serve and is constantly researching the market for additional areas of expansion. Their tools have become the de facto standard for protocol analysis as they continue to deliver new products for established and emerging communication standards.

At the end of 2004 CATC's shareholders accepted an aquisition offer from LeCroy. CATC is now a division of LeCroy known as LeCroy Protocol Solutions Group operating from the same premises as before and with the same engineering staff.

LeCroy Technology:

LeCroy's core technologies have been fine-tuned over the years to deliver the most accurate, reliable and powerful diagnostic systems available in the market today. At the heart of all LeCroy analysers is the proprietary LeCroy BusEngine™ Protocol Processor technology. The BusEngine is responsible for the initial protocol data capture, decoding, triggering and filtering and then passes the captured data to the LeCroy Trace™ expert software system for further processing, decoding and analysis before presenting the information to the user.

The powerful and intuitive LeCroy Trace expert software system is customised to address the specific features and functionality of each protocol. LeCroy's Universal Protocol Analyser System (UPAS) is a hardware platform that has the flexibility to accept different analyser modules or be paired with traffic generation modules to create a completely integrated test environment. The ability to use the UPAS platform for multiple protocol analysis modules allows engineers to quickly switch from one type of protocol analysis to another with minimal effort and equipment.

LeCroy Products:

LeCroy offers an extensive line of advanced protocol analysis expert systems and connectivity tools. These systems make use of LeCroy's core technologies and offer a superior user experience. Usability is a key principal underlying all LeCroy products. All LeCroy analysers use a Windows-based graphical user interface that has been optimised for fast and easy navigation through a captured traffic session. Users can easily drill down on areas of interest or collapse and hide fields that are not relevant. This flexibility greatly aids the user when trying to isolate a specific error or interoperability issue.

In response to a growing demand by users in the field, LeCroy has designed a range of mobile analysers based on a smaller, PC card format. These highly portable award-winning systems have the same functionality as their full sized systems, enabling field application engineers and technicians to easily identify and resolve issues at customer sites.

LeCroy systems are easy to maintain and fully field-upgradeable. Software updates can be downloaded from the LeCroy website and quickly applied without having to take the equipment out of service.
