Module for Powerlink, Profinet, EtherCAT and EtherNet/IP
With the "Industrial Ethernet Module" from IXXAT, devices can quickly and cost-efficiently be adapted to various Industrial Ethernet technologies.
The module is based on an FPGA from Altera and in addition to an integrated 32-bit CPU and an Ethernet Controller it also provides the PHYs and RJ45 jacks.
The FPGA can be configured via the software interface to support the chosen Industrial Ethernet Protocol. This allows the host hardware and software application to either be configured in the field or at the last minute on the production line before shipping to a customer.
Depending on the implemented Industrial Ethernet protocol, the Ethernet interface is either single routed (PROFINET, EtherNet/IP) or double routed (Powerlink, EtherCAT).
Using the published API to the Host-CPU (Host-API is provided in C sourcecode and can be ported to any host processor) the designer can connect his device easily using SPI or a standardised µC-Interface. The Host-API encapsulates the functions of the real-time industrial Ethernet protocol running on the module thus the application can be developed independant of the underlaying network. Additionally protocol specific features can also be used by the application.
With the optional available baseboard the module can directly be connected to processor modules from Phytec (phyCORE-XC161 and phyCORE-LPC2294) or Spectrum Digital (eZdsp F2812). Using these available boards, this solution is very suitable for rapid prototyping.
